QUESTIONS ABOUT CONTACT LENSES

 

 

I've never tried them before, but would I be able to use contact lenses?

There are many new options in contact lenses that may allow patients, who previously thought they were not candidates, to wear contacts now.  Unfortunately, even with these new options, there are some patients that may not be able to wear contact lenses successfully.  At your visit, your optometrist can discuss your options and help you decide if contacts might be right for you.  If you decide to try them, we will provide training on how to use and care for your lenses and, in most cases, provide a pair of trial prescription contact lenses to test before returning for a follow up visit. 

 

What is a contact lens fitting?

This is the portion of your exam related to your contact lenses.  It is completed for both new and existing contact lens wearers, each time your contact lens prescription is issued or renewed.  During your exam, your optometrist will spend some additional time screening for certain health issues more common with contact lens use, evaluating the fit and prescription of your lenses, and, if applicable, discussing new or alternative options.  If you are trying a new lens, the doctor may provide you with trial lenses to test, and have you return for a follow up visit in one to two weeks.  If you are new to contact lens wear, we will also provide training on how to use and care for your lenses.  Follow up visits (completed within three months of your initial visit) and any trial lenses used during the fitting process are all included in the contact lens fitting fee. Depending on your insurance, you may have a copay or out of pocket cost for this portion of your exam.  Our staff member will gladly review your specific plan details with you and provide a clear outline of any anticipated out of pocket costs.
